Job Description

Sense are looking for a passionate and motivated person to join our fantastic team as a Support Worker at our service in Kingstanding, Birmingham.

This is a permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week at our CQC service which has been rated 'Good'.

Our home consists of 5 bedrooms and is home to individuals who have sensory impairments, learning difficulties and/or mobility impairments.

As a Support Worker, you will support the individuals with personal care needs, as well as help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing. 

We like to take part in a wide range of activites, such as attending our resource centre Touchbase Pears, adapted cycling, swimming, bowling, ice skating, pub visits and visiting local parks. The staff team arrange day trips and also support on holidays in the UK and abroad. 

At home, we like to relax and enjoy being pampered with foot spa’s massages, cooking, baking, arts and crafts and developing our daily living skills.

The individuals require support 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and currently require day support workers for early and late shifts on a varied pattern. The current shift pattern we have are as follows: 7am-2:30pm and 2pm-9:30pm.

The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such.

Your duties can include:

To support individuals / groups within the home, centre and community.
To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.

Your required skills and experiences:

You require a full manual UK license and must be willing/able to drive.
Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar is desirable ( BSL / Makaton etc.)
You don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent support worker. 
Knowledge of multi sensory impairments / learning difficullties is beneficial.
