Do you have previous public affairs experience, delivering change for an organisation? Would you like to make a difference at one of the country’s largest charities? If so, you may be the Senior Public Affairs Officer we’re looking for!

Job Description

The British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Policy and Public Affairs team exists to influence key decision makers so that we can beat heart disease for good. We develop the BHF’s policy position and engage and influence stakeholders to help ensure the UK remains a global leader in heart and circulatory research.

As a Senior Public Affairs Officer, you'll join our award winning team where you’ll develop and deliver key projects across the BHF’s political priorities and provide public affairs expertise to help influence UK Government policy, legislation and the health service in England.

Working arrangements

This is a dual location role, with your working time split between your home and approximately once a week at our London Office. This will allow us to unlock our best work for our cause, blending the best of home and office working.

Here at the BHF we understand that you might need a little help balancing your work and home life. Many of our people work flexibly in many different ways. Please feel free to talk to us about the flexibility you may need; we’re happy to explore what’s possible for you and the role, including part time and flexible working opportunities.

About you

You'll have detailed knowledge of the workings of government and parliamentary procedure as well as a working knowledge of the devolved administrations. With an understanding of the external political environment, you'll have an understanding of the role of the BHF and other health charities in general and particularly in the political arena.

You'll have experience of working in the UK Parliament, a public affairs consultancy, or an in-house public affairs role, and have excellent communication skills. Having previously successfully influenced political stakeholders you'll be able to build strong relationships with key internal and external colleagues.

Able to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for political audiences in a variety of formats, you'll be able to summarise complex information swiftly and accurately for a variety of audiences. You'll be able to plan your own workload, ensure effective time management and meet deadlines.

With a commitment to high standards of relationship management in order to achieve the best outcome, you'll be able to work using your own initiative, proactively seizing opportunities to benefit the BHF.
