Could you help to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people in Surrey?

Job Description

The halow project is dedicated to creating opportunities and supporting young people aged 16 and over with a learning disability so that they can live independent, meaningful lives and become more involved in their local community. We are a young, vibrant, and growing charitable organisation. Our team are passionate that the people we support have the right to expect the same life experiences and chances as any other young person and we are committed to making this a reality.

We are seeking an energetic part-time Learning Support and Activities Worker (internal title: 'Cross Project Worker'). Based across community venues and in our Guildford based office, you will lead and deliver sessions and provide appropriate admin support for our daytime activities programme A Reason to Get Up (ARTGU), and Social Activities programme during the weekday evenings.

The A Reason to Get Up programme strives to develop confidence, life skills and independence for young people with a learning disability to prepare them for independent adult life. With a varied and exciting programme, including opportunities to explore meaningful work, volunteering, and paid jobs, our programmes are known for their excellent outcomes. You will be leading up to two daytime sessions within the programme.

The Social Activities programme provides fun, social and safe activities which are designed to give our young people the chance to enjoy an active social life, make new friends, and become part of their community. You will be assisting and/or leading approximately two evening activities and/or occasional full day holiday or weekend activities within the programme.

Our commitment to connecting young people to their community means that all our programmes are delivered in the local community, at community venues and spaces. Due to some locations utilised by the project being more remote, we are ideally seeking drivers with a full license and access to a vehicle.

The term-time weekly schedule for this role is based on a 2-week rotational basis as follows:

Week 1

Monday: 9am-4:30pm - ARTGU programme delivery

Tuesday: 4pm-7pm - Social Activities delivery

Wednesday: 9am-4:30pm - ARTGU programme delivery

Thursday: Day off

Friday: 4pm-8:30pm - Social Activities delivery

Friday: In office during the daytime working on activity preparation and administration for 7.5 hours, to be worked flexibly during the office opening hours of 9am-5:30pm

Saturday: Day off

Sunday: Day off

Activity timings will be varied during the school holidays so some flexibility will be required during these periods along with occasional ad-hoc weekend activities, and to meet operational needs such as covering illness and annual leave. Ample notice time will be given for these instances. There may also be opportunities to further supplement working hours by picking up additional shifts around this schedule as part of our Buddy Outreach services.

Successful applications are subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
