We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Strategy to play a key role in improving the quality of cross-organisation strategic thinking and decision-making to accelerate the delivery of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) strategy to 2030.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Impact and working alongside two other Heads of Strategy, you’ll instigate, deliver, and influence activity in four inter-related areas:

  1.  Futures, foresight, and associated analysis to identify and assess future strategic challenges and opportunities for the BHF
  2.  Accelerated progression of the BHF’s strategic initiatives
  3.  Strategic planning to ensure robust, strategically aligned plans across the BHF
  4.  Strategic performance and impact to enable the organisation to have sight of, and challenge on, progress towards the delivery of the BHF’s Strategy to 2030

You'll work closely with staff and senior stakeholders across and outside the BHF to manage and evaluate complex strategic projects and programmes in line with the BHF organisational strategy, providing independent expert challenges to enable the BHF to meet its long term ambitions.

You’ll work closely with the other Heads of Strategy to agree the deployment of a team of managers and analysts in an agile way to best meet the needs of the organisation.

Working arrangements

This is a dual location role, with your working time split between your Home and our London Office. This will allow us to unlock our best work for our cause, blending the best of home and office working.

Here at the BHF we understand that you might need a little help balancing your work and home life. Many of our people work flexibly in many ways. Please feel free to talk to us about the flexibility you may need; we’re happy to explore what’s possible for you and the role.

About you

With a strong understanding and application of strategic analysis, strategy development, strategic planning and strategy consulting principles, you’ll have excellent communication and team building skills, able to develop and grow relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leaders, across multiple business areas.

To complement the skills of the other Heads of Strategy, you’ll have a strong knowledge and understanding of biomedical science as well as the wider research and health ecosystem. A knowledge of cardiovascular science would be an advantage but is not essential.

With previous experience of developing and delivering strategy across a range of areas within complex organisational environments, you’ll also have experience in leading and running complex projects / programmes and developing and managing performance reporting systems and frameworks.

Able to translate complexity into clear narrative, you’ll consistently demonstrate an ability to transform strategic working into real world benefit through effective leadership and project management. You'll also be able to think creatively above and beyond immediate requirements, able to influence and persuade others, including senior leaders, to enable consensus within groups and to foster innovation across an organisation.
