Job Description

Blackpool Better Start is a partnership with the Local Authority, Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Clinical Commissioning Group, Police and the community led by the NSPCC to transform services for 0-3’s and their families across the town. Funded for 10 years by Big Lottery, we are one of only five Better Start Sites across the country.

  • To identify and support families with babies and children under 4 years of age, primarily living in the seven Better Start Wards in Blackpool,   to take up the services most appropriate to their need and to encourage the active take up of services provided at Children’s Centres.
  • To develop local people as community champions, using their expertise within their local areas to better the links, information and support accessed by local families.
  • To support parents and their young children to develop a strong bond within their community and have their voice heard and influence local decision making.

We are seeking to recruit 1 enthusiastic and dynamic people to join us as Community Connectors (17.5hours per week per post)

You will work across our 7 target wards as part of our Community and Programme Development teams to identify and support families with babies and children under 4, living in Blackpool and specifically within a Better Start target ward area, to access the services they need including Children’s Centre service and community resources.

The successful candidates will have an understanding of coproduction and working alongside communities to help them develop a shared voice (Better Start Community Voice) that can influence local decision making. Community Connectors will support local people to become community champions and work towards reducing stressors and building capacity locally and town wide.    They must have experience of working with vulnerable parents, including those typically known as ‘hard to reach’.

Above all the successful candidates will be passionate about improving outcomes for the most vulnerable families and babies in Blackpool now and for future generations.
